Model scale of Abu Dhabi Pavilion at Expo'70 Osaka ...

In the previous post, I came back to the first participation of the United Arab Emirates, the Abu Dhabi pavilion at the World Expo in Osaka 1970.

As everyone knows, in 2020 will be held the first World Expo in an Arab country, Expo 2020 Dubai, UAE. And it's with great pride that the Emirates consider this first participation at Expo'70 Osaka. Young nation under 50, they are very proud of their recent history, and more particularly that which concerns the time of their creation.

I had long time in mind a 3d project about this history, but without having had time to get started. The first files were directed towards the production of a 3D movie, either on the history of the participation of the United Arab Emirates in the Word Expo, or on the participation of the countries of the Arabian Peninsula, or of an even wider way, on the history of the participations of the Arab countries since the first World Expos of the XIXth century, until today.

You've probably noticed, I have, for a little over a year, a new activity complementary to my 3D reconstruction projects, in the form of 3D printed models ... Some new events in the Expo 2020 Dubai process made me reopen the file, and consider making a model of this Abu Dhabi pavilion, rather than a movie (for the moment).

The first part of this project being finished, here are some images of this model made on a 1/100 scale. All that is missing is a support reproducing part of its environment.

And from here Expo 2020 Dubai, there will certainly be many more projects of the same type.

Below, rendering of the Abu Dhabi Pavilion modeled in 3d, before preparing files for printing.

Below, some pieces being printed in 3d ... nearly fifty pieces make up the model.

A friend asked me the question some time ago: "what about United Arab Emirates in the Expos? Since when and how many participations?"

It's a fact that the United Arab Emirates, young federal state was created in 1971, only 41 years ago ... it's perfectly normal that this story related to Expos is also recent.

Abu Dhabi pavilion - Osaka 70 - Expo 2020 Dubai BlogSince the Expo '70 in Osaka until 2012 Yeosu, there can be 15 different Expos ... regarding the participation of the Emirates, the first one was in Japan, Osaka, in 1970, thanks to the presence of the pavilion of Abu Dhabi, federal capital of the country, composed by seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm al Qaiwain.

This first participation will be followed by five others with the United Arab Emirates: Seville in 1992, in Hanover in 2000 in Zaragoza in 2008, Shanghai in 2010 and Yeosu in 2012.

There are 6 entries since the creation of the UAE 41 years ago, but since Expo '70, if we take it into account all interests of countries that are parties of the Arab world, there is a total of 80 entries, which is far from negligible in just four decades.
Not to mention the Arab countries involved since the first expos: Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, etc ...

Abu Dhabi pavilion is a reconstruction of simple fortresses but impressive that coast in the ancient times. These fortresses served as residence or as gathering places of worship for the sheikhs or tribal leaders. Although built with simplicity, some survived the combined assault of man and nature.

They are still silent but eloquent witnesses of the Arab tenacity.

The pavilion is distinguished by its minarets, one round and one square, and includes exhibition halls and cinema.

Under the theme "Abu Dhabi, Past, Present and Future", this pavilion offers a broad overview of the activities and achievements of the small emirate.

The exhibition gives an idea of the enormous amount of work and considerable progress made since the beginning of the reign of His Highness, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nehiyan and how oil revenues are used for the well-being of the people.

Abu Dhabi's past, the role of the sea and pearl fishing in the lives of people is treated with picturesque paintings.

Highlight of the exhibition: a replica of a romantic scene of the "Thousand and One Nights" to entertain visitors to the manner of the Arabs in the past centuries.

The pavilion of Abu Dhabi was at the center of the Expo '70 in Osaka, besire the artificial lake near Avenue Bridge Senri.
